American Express Helps My Identity Thief

In September of 2002 I noticed an entry on one of my credit reports that referenced an American Express account that was in default. What now! Another identity theft account? I’ve never applied for or owned an American Express card. American Express extended a credit card to my identity thief. I received no phone call, no email or letter asking me if I had indeed requested one of their credit cards.
I called American Express and I must say that dealing with their staff was a delight. Their customer service had Johnny-on-the-spot promptness, customer courtesy and the fraudulent account was expeditiously resolved in my favor. Of all of the banks and financial services investigators I dealt with during my identity theft headaches, the American Express staff were the best.
